The venue, Rice Canyon Ranch, is the vision of new owners Jim and Kim Grimes.  The ranch is nestled in the Honey Lake Valley with broad vistas of the sun brushed Sierras and Diamond Mountain.  It is a mosaic of irrigated lands growing alfalfa and grain, and others slated for sorghum, winter feed for their expanding cattle herd. Antelope, deer, and raptors call the ranch home.

Chef Tim Magee, owner of Calafuria, Reno, Nevada, will mark his Lassen County debut, bringing of 15 years of culinary experience in Tuscany, Italy where he gleaned the secrets of the regional cuisine from the masters.  He and his wife Christina ran a restaurant LeNuvole, in the medieval town of Sivereto, Italy.  Tim was fortunate to have been selected to work at Noma in Copenhagen, the number one restaurant in the world at that time.  His passions for foraging, preserving, and fermenting will be on stage at this meal.

The quest for Chef Timothy Magee and his team of talented chefs for the 2023 Lassen Land and Trails Trust farm to table dinner is to showcase the amazing variety of meats, vegetables, fruits and forigables found in Lassen County and the Great Basin.

Each course is paired with locally sourced libations, generously donated by Comstock Distillery in Reno (Jim Grimes, the host, is President),Lassen Ale Works (Lassen County’s only brewery and long-time LLTT supporters),and Cooper Garrod wines (owned by the Garrod family of Lassen County, long term LLTT members).

Cooper Garrod is contributing the first bottling of a luscious rose.  Lassen Ale Works will bring four local favorite brews named for local trails and landmarks. The magnificent finish to the evening’s menu is a peach infused dessert paired with mellow sipping whiskey from Comstock Distillery. Comstock Distillery’s award-winning products include single barrel whiskey and Cemetery Gin.

Lassen Land and Trails Trust gives its heartfelt thanks to the many volunteers and generous donations of individuals and businesses that support this event and the numerous projects of Lassen Land and Trails Trust.
